We have enjoyed watching these examples of string instruments in our music classes this week. (We will finish with strings next Tuesday, September 27th.)  Some of the kids asked for the links, so here you go.  I think you will enjoy watching them together.  Ms. J

Here are two wonderful examples we found on YouTube:

It might be fun to watch these short videos with your child, and see what they remember or know about the various instruments.  Which are most interesting to them?  Would they like the job of being the conductor??

Please stay in touch, with concerns, questions and/or suggestions.  If you have any experience and would like to volunteer to demonstrate any of these instruments, I guarantee you play better than I do!  But I am a risk-taker, so it's all good.

Please be sure to contact me with any concerns, questions or suggestions you have!

Welcome to First Grade Music!

Greetings, new and returning families.  I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with returning first grade students and meeting a few new ones beginning the week of August 22-26. First grade music classes will meet weekly at the following times:

  • Tuesdays 1:10-1:50 with Mrs. Bender's Class
  • Tuesdays 1:50-2:30 with Mrs. Armenta's Class
  • Fridays from 1:10-1:50 with Mrs. Velasco's Class
  • Fridays from 1:50-2:30 with Mrs. Greim's Class

Our first day of Music Class we will review the school songs (SURE, Bulldog Boogie, National Anthem) and music behavior expectations.  We learned where our new seats will be, and had our pictures taken for our music seating chart, to help Ms. Jorstad get to know us better.  We read "Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes" and appreciated what a good attitude Pete has about trying new things. We also talked about the Olympics, and how important the National Anthem is when celebrating gold medals.  We reviewed the words to the "Star Spangled Banner" and also found time to play the hand drums together in different patterns.

THE SURE SONG

  • Be Safe
  • Be Understanding
  • Be Respectful
  • Show Effort

First grade students are invited to audition for our after school choir, Bulldog Pups, which meets on Tuesdays from 2:45-4:00.  More information will be posted soon.  Also, we are looking for some helpful and willing parents to assist during our weekly First Grade Arts Classes, and well as during our Tuesday after school rehearsals.  This is an important but fun job--and you are welcome to participate in our music activities, if you like.

You are always welcome to leave me a question or comment at my email:  cynthiajorstad@vistausd.org or on my school phone:  (760) 726-2170 Ext. 44316.
